Apples & Bourbon
This kitchen layout was a true design challenge! This Royal Oak home, built in the 1920’s, had an addition on the back with several awkward built-in desks, which is exactly what a modern family does not need. Detroit Build opened up the space and turned three segregated rooms into an open concept living space. Dealing with a hefty brick chimney stack that could not be removed, we had to completely redesigned the floor plan. To help ground the chimney stack, we arranged the island cabinetry around it with storage on one side, and seating for the family of four on the other side. The half bath was relocated to a better location, and a modern laundry room with storage and a stylish barn door was added. Our client was over the moon to have first floor laundry and not have to trek down to the basement anymore.
